Lahore, with AQI 253, tops list of world’s most polluted cities

Despite the steps taken by the Punjab government to control smog such as the deployment of smog guns and sprinkling of water on roads and other dusty areas, there is no letup in smog as Lahore, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 253, was ranked as the world’s most polluted city on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

New Delhi, with the AQI recorded at 252, emerged as the second most polluted city in the world, while Karachi, with the AQI standing at 181 was ranked as the fifth most polluted city.

On Wednesday, 24News TV channel reported that firecrackers were exploded in Indian cities on Monday and Tuesday on the occasion of Diwali, which resulted in an extremely poor air quality in these cities.

The smog then travelled to the Punjab cities, including Lahore.

However, the steps taken by the Punjab government prevented the situation from getting worse.

It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has already taken notice of the deteriorating air quality of the provincial capital and ordered steps.

But still, the situation is far from satisfactory as the city has been making headlines due to its polluted air.
