The Federal Board of Revenue on Wednesday submitted the tax report of Supreme Court judge’s wife Sarena Isa to the apex court.
According to the report, the FBR imposed Rs30 million penalty on Sarena Isa, wife of Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa, for not paying taxes. The tax notice was served on Sarena Isa. The final report consists of 250 pages. A 164-page commissioner order has also been attached with the final tax report. The report was compiled by Commissioner Zulfikar Ahmed.
The FBR report said four show-cause notices were served on Sarena Isa but she failed to defend herself. No tax liability was imposed on the children of Sarena Isa, the report said. All three London properties were purchased by Sarena Isa. She changed her stance on the London properties. The sealed report was submitted to the Chief Justice office. The total value of assets of Sarena Isa was Rs104 million, said the report. However, Sarena’s legitimate income value was Rs23 million. FBR said it would wait the order of the apex court before taking any action against Sarena Isa.
Sarena Isa refused to accept a tax liability of Rs35 million. In a statement issued recently in response to an FBR letter, she said she was being “condemned unheard” and therefore intended to file an appeal against the order.
The Isa’s assets have become the subject of debate ever since a presidential reference was filed against Justice Isa for not declaring all his assets.
Justice Isa challenged the reference and said his wife and adult children had their own assets and he was not responsible for them.
