NEPRA approves electricity price hike by Rs 3.28 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Friday approved Rs 3.28 per unit hike in electricity prices on account of quarterly fuel charges adjustment (FCA), reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The regulatory authority sent the decision to increase the quarterly adjustment to the federal government, the increase in electricity price will be applied after the approval of the federal government.

In case of an increase in the request sent by Nepra, there will be an additional burden of Rs159 billion on the electricity consumers.

The regulatory authority took the decision on a request filed by the Central Power Purchasing Authority (CPPA) at the request of power distribution companies (DISCOS) for periodic adjustments in tariff for the 4th Quarter of FY 2022-23.

The DISCOS requested the NEPRA to increase the tariff by Rs 5.40. 

The additional amount will be collected from consumers in six bills from Oct 2023 to March 2024, instead of three months.

The increase in electricity prices will be applicable to all consumers including Karachi Electric’s customers.

The increase in electricity prices will not be applicable to the lifeline consumers.
