Anjum Raza appointed as judge of Punjab Defamation Tribunal Lahore

The Punjab government, after the approval of the Governor of Punjab, has issued a formal notification for the establishment of Defamation Tribunals in the province under the Punjab Defamation Act 2024. 

After the notification, District and Sessions Judge (retired) Anjum Raza Syed has been appointed as judge of Punjab Defamation Tribunal Lahore. 

According to a notification, three defamation tribunals have been established in Punjab, including Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. District and Sessions Judge (retd) Anjum Raza Syed has been appointed as a member for the Lahore Tribunal.

Retired Sessions Judge Muhammad Ibrahim Asghar and Ghaffar Mehtab have been nominated as members of the Multan Tribunal. 

The aim of this move is to ensure prompt and effective hearing of defamation cases. A notification for the establishment of the Rawalpindi Defamation Tribunal has also been issued where the concerned judicial officers will perform their responsibilities. Copies of the notification issued by the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Punjab have been sent to the higher judiciary, Advocate General Punjab, provincial police officers, Chief Secretary Punjab, Deputy Commissioners, Commissioners and other concerned departments so that the judicial proceedings can be carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the law.

Legal experts say that the establishment of defamation tribunals will speed up the processing of defamation cases and pave the way for the affected parties to get justice soon.
