Prof Nizami urges global community to advocate peace and human dignity at Beijing symposium

Prof Dr Muhammad Ashraf Nizami, Chairman of International Relations at the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has urged the international community, including medical associations, civil society, and people of conscience, to act collectively and urgently to address the Gaza humanitarian crisis.

In his significant address at the international symposium on “International Exchange and Cooperation” in Beijing, held to mark the 110th anniversary of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA) and the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and Nazism in the war against Japanese occupation, he drew attention to the current global context, describing it as a challenging era marked by political conflicts and confusion surrounding human rights.

He stressed that in such times, the role of medical professionals and associations becomes more crucial in promoting peace, defending human dignity, and upholding ethical responsibilities.

Expressing his gratitude to Madam Chair Academician Prof. Qiao Jie and Prof. Zhang Shuyang for the invitation, Prof. Nizami said it was an honour to participate in such an important event. 

Reflecting on deliberations at the World Medical Association (WMA) General Assembly in Kigali, Rwanda, in October 2023, Prof. Nizami reiterated his condemnation of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. However, he voiced grave concern over what he described as the ongoing atrocities by the Israeli regime, citing continuous human rights violations, war crimes, and the genocide of Palestinians.

Prof. Nizami also acknowledged the progress of the Chinese Medical Association and lauded the contributions of the Chinese government under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping.

He highlighted the Pak-China Medical Corridor, developed under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), as a symbol of the deepening ties and growing cooperation between the two nations.

Recognizing the broader value of international cooperation, he praised China’s role in strengthening collaboration through platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

He emphasized that regional partnerships in medicine, information technology, research, and industry are not only essential for global development but also for building lasting peace.

 Prof. Nizami thanked the organizers and participants for the opportunity to share his views and reaffirmed the Pakistan Medical Association’s commitment to fostering international cooperation for the advancement of global health and the betterment of humanity.
