Punjab govt unveils relief package for flood-hit people
Azma Bukhari says those politicizing floods should be ashamed of themselves
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said on Tuesday that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had announced a relief package for the flood-affected people of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, she said that under the package, every person, losing his entire house to floods, would be given Rs1 million, while those whose homes had been partially damaged would be given Rs0.5 million each.
Elaborating further, Azma said that the farmers, whose crops had been destroyed due to floods, would receive Rs10,000 each for each acre of their lands. “Similarly, Rs500,000 will be given to the person, losing a buffalo, while Rs50,000 each will be given to those losing goats and sheep,” she said.

She claimed that never ever in the history of the province, there was a chief minister as hardworking and as committed to people’s welfare as CM Maryam was. “What you witness these days is a completely new type of governance,” she said, adding, “There is no place in the province which the chief minister has not visited. The CM and her team worked in the flood-hit areas like labourers. She sat with the ordinary people on the floor.”
The minister further said that those doing politics on floods in the country should be ashamed of themselves.
She said that although she was not fond of lecturing Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, still she would like to ask him why the PPP government in Sindh did not prepare for floods when last time the calamity had struck the province. “The only thing I can do for the people politicizing the issue is to pray for them,” she said.
Azma said that the federal government as well as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had completely supported the provincial government in dealing with the floods.
The minister said that 4.7 million people had been displaced by floods in the province. “We have completed initial survey in the affected areas,” she said, adding, “As many as 4,794 villages were affected.”
