Karachi police have expanded the scope of the investigation into the “suicide” of Dr Maha Ali Shah.
On Monday, the police summoned Maha’s close friend Junaid, who appeared before the investigators along with his lawyer. Recording his statement to the police, Junaid said that Maha had asked him to give her a pistol, but he refused. He told the police that he had good terms with Maha and that he did not have any argument with her before she committed suicide.
SSP Bashir Brohi has said that Maha’s other friends would also be investigated. Police investigators have said that Maha’s blood samples have been sent for tests. They said they were in touch with Maha’s family members and they are cooperating in the investigation.
On the other hand, some police officials have pointed out contradictions in Maha’s medical report and expressed the fear that she might have been murdered.
Maha, 25, was found bleeding in her bathroom with a bullet wound to her head at her house in DHA Phase 4 in Karachi on August 18. She was associated with the South City Hospital.
