20 killed as rain pounds parts of country

As many as 20 people have so far lost their lives in different rain-related incidents in the country, while a state of emergency was declared in Rawalpindi and Islamabad following torrential rains in the twin cities, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Sunday.  

10 killed, 50 injured in Dera Ismael Khan

Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds, wreaked havoc in Dera Ismael Khan as 10 people lost their lives while 50 were injured.

The winds blew away the roofs and uprooted trees. 

Several feeders also tripped due to which the power supply was suspended.

The main tower of 11,000 KV also fell down. 

The deputy commissioner and the DPO visited the hospital last night to inquire after those injured in the incidents. 

Six killed in Poonch division of AJK 

Six people, including two women, were killed while 14 were injured in different incidents reported from four districts of the Poonch Division as rain continues to batter Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). 

Giving a press briefing, the commissioner Poonch Division said that 129 homes had been completely destroyed while 600 had been partially damaged. “Moreover, 40 animals have perished, four vehicles have been washed away while 24 shops have been destroyed due to rains,” he has elaborated.  

Giving further details, the commissioner said that 60 kilometers of roads, 77 educational institutions and three health centers had been damaged. 

He advised the people to avoid travelling unnecessarily and stay away from rain drains and streams. 

Three kids die in Lower Dir

Three children were killed, while the fourth one was injured after the roof of their house caved in at Lower Dir.

One dies due to roof collapse in Takht Bhai  

One person was killed while two were seriously wounded after the roof of their house caved in near Jalal Isa Khorr in Takht Bhai.

Rescue 1122 staffers shifted the dead as well as the injured to THQ Hospital.

150 tourists rescued in Kaghan Valley

Over 150 tourists stranded due to the closure of a road leading to Saiful Muluk Lake in Kaghan were shifted to a hotel after the administration removed the debris from the road with the help of heavy machinery. 

River Sutlej bursts its banks at Jalalpur Pir Wala

An embankment built on the River Sutlej at Jalalpur Pir Wala was washed away after water from the river spilled over into nearby localities.

Rescue 1122 staffers were put on a high alert in Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar and Vehari.

On the other hand, the river was in high flood at Ganda Singh Wala, while flood wreaked havoc in Jhang where water destroyed crops in several villages. 

Crops grown over thousands of acres of land were destroyed in Shakargarh after flooding in streams and nullahs.  

Landslide in Abbotabad

The Abbottabad to Havelian bypass road was closed for traffic following a landslide, causing a massive traffic jam as long queues of vehicles were witnessed on both sides of the road. 

Rawalpindi, Islamabad receive rain

Heavy rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad led to flooding in streams and nullahs besides inundating low-lying areas.

At several places, water even entered people’s homes and shops.

Spillways of the Rawal Dam were opened after the water level in the dam reached 1,752 feet.  

On the other hand, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) MD said that the agency employees had reached the low-lying areas to drain out the rainwater. “As soon as the rain started, heavy machinery was brought to the Underpass at Committee Chowk and Murree Road,” the MD said, adding, “The situation in nullahs and streams is being monitored. However, right now the situation is normal.”

Rain in Arifwala

Rain in Arifwala and its suburbs late Saturday night turned the weather pleasant.

However, several feeders tripped, due to which the power supply to the city was suspended.   

Rain lashes Sangla Hill

Heavy rain lashed Sangla Hill and its surrounding areas, inundating low-lying areas besides resulting in the suspension of the power supply. 

There were also reports of rain from Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Shakargarh, Peshawar, Malakand, Swat and other cities. 

Pak Army conducts relief, rescue operations in KP

The Pakistan Army is conducting relief and rescue operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Army jawans have rescued people stranded in Rajsham, a far-flung area of Shangla, by providing them ration and setting up medical camps.  

Similarly, the Ayesha Foundation, too, has set up medical and relief camps for the affected families. 

The army has also reviewed damaged roads and bridges.

It has also conducted relief and rescue operations in Bagh Naseemabad area.
