Economy suffers Rs450b due to goods transporters’ strike

The national economy bore a loss of Rs450 billion due to a 9-day strike by goods transporters across the country, reported 4NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association President Mohammad Awais Chaudhry expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Rs450 billion.

He said that “goods transporters observe a strike not for enjoyment, but it became their last choice”.

He appealed to the government to solve their outstanding issues on a priority basis. He said that if their grievances were addressed, there would be no need to observe a strike.

Mohammad Awais Chaudhry said that due to the strike, our country’s export and import process was halted and fares of some shipments were doubled.

He said that goods transporters are playing a vital role in strengthening the economy, trade, and exports.

He advised the government to adopt a comprehensive mechanism with the consultation of goods transporters to strengthen coordination.
