PM sets July 15 as deadline for final recommendations of civil awards

Prime Minister Imran Khan, taking notice of the delay in the nominations for the civil awards, has set July 15 as the deadline for the final recommendations in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.

The Cabinet Division has asked the relevant departments to submit the nominations no later than April 15.

According to the Cabinet Division, the nominations, which will be not be sent within the stipulated timeframe will not be considered.

The Prime Minister usually received the final recommendations for the civil awards nominees very late and it could not be possible for him to go through the recommendations vigilantly.

The Cabinet Division has started taking action on the directives of the Prime Minister and has set April 15 as deadline for the relevant departments and the final recommendations will be sent to the Prime Minister soon after this deadline.

The Cabinet Division has issued directives in this regard to all the concerned ministries, divisions, departments and chief secretaries of all the provinces.

The announcement of civil awards is generally made once a year on Independence Day, August 14, and their investiture takes place on the following Pakistan Day, March 23.

According to Article 259 of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, along with the Decorations Act, 1975, the President of Pakistan confers civil awards on Pakistani citizens in recognition of gallantry.

Awards for Pride of Performance are conferred for outstanding achievements in the fields of art, literature, science, sports and nursing.

The Civil Awards comprise five orders each with four descending classes: Nishan (Order‎), Hilal (Crescent‎), Sitara (Star) and Tamgha (Medal).
