Lahore ranks third in index of world’s most polluted cities as smog lingers on

Despite the government’s measures to cut down pollutants in the air, it has failed to achieve a breakthrough on this front as the issue of smog persists in the country’s urban areas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Lahore, with the air quality index (AQI) recorded at 237, was ranked as the third most polluted city in the world on Sunday morning.

New Delhi, with the AQI 432, and Dhaka with the AQI 249, were on the first and second positions, respectively.   

The air quality over the US consulate in Lahore was worst where the AQI was recorded at 641.

The Mall with the AQI standing at 591 was the second most polluted area of the provincial capital followed by Khanae Saleem with the AQI 417.

Similarly, the AQI over Phase-8, DHA was recorded at 396; 284 over the Generations, and 236 over Thokar Niaz Beg.

The temperature recorded at 8:00 in the morning was 7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius on Saturday afternoon.

The level of humidity in the air stood at 95 per cent.

On the other hand, the weather is getting chillier with each passing day.

The Met Office forecast dry weather for the city during the next 24 hours.
