PMA Lahore raises alarm over rising Monkeypox cases in city

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has expressed serious concern over the rising number of monkeypox cases in the provincial capital, claiming four deaths caused by the virus in Lahore during the current month.

In a press release on Wednesday, PMA Lahore General Secretary Dr Wajid Ali said that monkeypox was spreading rapidly in the city, describing the situation as alarming and worrisome.

He urged the Punjab government and the Health Department to take immediate measures to control the spread of the disease.

Dr Wajid Ali stressed the importance of timely public awareness, saying that educating citizens about preventive measures was crucial to protect them from the deadly virus.

He advised the public to immediately visit the nearest government hospital or an authorised medical facility if symptoms appear, and cautioned against believing rumours.

He emphasised that people should strictly follow advice from qualified medical professionals.

The PMA Lahore reiterated its call for coordinated efforts to prevent further loss of life and contain the spread of monkeypox in the city.
