The Sindh High Court (SHC) Thursday ordered the removal of acting Karachi University (KU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Khalid Iraqi and also warned of contempt proceedings if the court orders were not implemented within a week, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar heard the contempt plea filed by KU’s Prof Ahmed Qadri against the non-removal of acting VC Khalid Iraqi despite the court orders on January 26 last.

The SHC judge annulled all the decisions taken by Khalid Iraqi after January 26 last and also asked Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah to appoint a permanent VC within three months.

The court also warned the Sindh chief minister of contempt of court proceedings if a permanent VC was not appointed within the stipulated period.

The SHC judge directed the KU management to send the Sindh CM names of 10 most senior professors and also asked the CM to choose the most senior of them as the acting vice-chancellor.

He also directed the formation of a “search committee” for the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor.
