Merger of two major Punjab departments proposed

It has been proposed to merge the Punjab Local Government Department with the Housing Department, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

According to sources, proposal to run roads, water, sewage and housing under a single law across the province has been submitted.

It is also proposed to bring the powers and laws of the departments into a single framework.

It is recommended that departments must be merged to eliminate institutional overlap and duplication of work.

As per proposals, merger is necessary to eliminate delays and confusion in services under the new local government system.

Merger will strengthen the governance structure and make the accountability system effective.

The new administrative structure and distribution of powers will be formally approved by the Chief Minister of Punjab.
