Wolfgang Puck dismisses Brooklyn Beckham’s chef title in candid remarks

Austrian-American celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck has bluntly stated that Brooklyn Beckham, son of former professional footballer is “Not a chef,” using the opportunity to criticize what he sees as a growing culture of social media fame overshadowing real culinary training.

Speaking at the Power of love gala in Las Vegas, the 76 year old Austrian American restaurateur made it clear he does not consider the 26 year old son of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham a professional in the kitchen.

According to attendees, Puck remarked that while Brooklyn may be trying to become a chef, “He is not a chef,” adding that running a kitchen requires far more than posting cooking clips online.

Puck, founder of the globally recognized Spago, went on to criticize what he described as young people’s short attention spans.

According to his comments, many aspiring cooks today want rapid fame television appearances, social media followings and restaurant ownership without dedicating years to mastering technique, organization, and business fundamentals.

He emphasized that true chefs learn the trade thoroughly, from food preparation to wine knowledge and kitchen management.

Brooklyn, who launched his Facebook series Cooking With Brooklyn during the pandemic, has frequently faced online scrutiny over his culinary ventures.

Despite openly admitting he lacks formal training, he has described cooking as a passion project. However, critics have questioned his methods and ingredient choices.

In past videos, he drew backlash for using luxury cuts of beef and black truffle, and for filling a pot with seawater while preparing pasta aboard a yacht. More recently, fans poked fun at a spaghetti bolognese dish that notably lacked spaghetti.

The comments arrive amid broader headlines surrounding the Beckham family. Last month, Brooklyn released a lengthy social media statement addressing tensions with his parents, while family friend Marc Anthony publicly described the ongoing feud as extremely unfortunate, though he declined to elaborate.
