Federal cabinet okays deployment of army in elections

The caretaker federal cabinet on Tuesday okayed the deployment of 277,000 Pakistan Army soldiers in the upcoming elections to be held on February 8, reported the 24NewsHd TV channel.

According to sources, the caretaker federal cabinet meeting also gave its approval for the Quick Response Force who will perform duties in the sensitive areas. 

The said decisions were taken against  a summary sent by the Interior Ministry to the caretaker federal cabinet seeking its approval. 

The ministry's summary, in response to the electoral body's request for the provision of security personnel owing to the law and order concerns in the upcoming general elections.

The cabinet meeting was also given a detailed briefing on FBR reforms and restructuring. 

The federal Revenue Division officials gave a briefing on reforms in FBR. The meeting okayed the formation of a committee for FBR reforms under
the chairmanship of caretaker finance minister Shamshad Akhtar. 

The committee would be comprised of ministers of foreign affairs, IT, law and justice, commerce, and privatization.

 The committee will give recommendations on reforms in FBR.
