A couple from Karachi was arrested in Abbottabad for allegedly using counterfeit currency while shopping in the tourist area of Changla Gali, police confirmed on Thursday.

According to SHO Zubair Khan, the suspects — identified as Abrar, son of Shaukat Ali, and his wife — had travelled to Abbottabad for tourism but were found to be circulating fake currency notes among local shopkeepers. The couple allegedly used forged notes to purchase goods, prompting multiple complaints from traders.

Acting swiftly, the Abbottabad police apprehended the duo and recovered fake currency worth Rs 1.36 lakh from their possession. A case has been registered under Sections 489B and 489C of the Pakistan Penal Code, and further investigation is underway.

Authorities have urged citizens and businesses to remain vigilant and report any suspicious transactions, especially during the busy tourist season.
