Low chances of crescent sighting for Safar 1447 AH; 1st Safar expected on July 27

The crescent for the Islamic month of Safar 1447 AH is likely to remain hidden from view this Friday evening due to prevailing monsoon conditions, according to astronomical data.

Experts have confirmed that the new moon will be born on July 25 at 12:11 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST). By sunset the same day, the moon will be around 19 hours and 31 minutes old — generally enough for potential visibility.

However, the weather poses a major hurdle. The moonset-sunset interval in Pakistan’s coastal areas is projected to be 43 minutes, but heavy monsoon clouds are expected to obscure visibility, significantly reducing the chances of a successful crescent sighting on the evening of July 25.

In light of this, 1 Safar 1447 AH is expected to fall on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

The final decision will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is scheduled to meet on Friday to assess moon sighting reports from across the country.
