A married woman succumbed to her injuries at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi late Tuesday night after being tortured by her brothers for demanding share in property/inheritance, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The barbaric act was committed in the Landhi area as the accused later shifted the victim, Maheen, to the hospital without informing her husband.

However, police said the real causes behind the torture and murder would be revealed after post-mortem and investigation.

This is just another reminder of the fact that the violence against women is a routine matter under one pretext or the other. Unfortunately, the victims are unable to get justice despite all the rhetoric with more and more cases being reported from across the country.

In one of such cases from Gujranwala, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Wednesday, an accused, Attaullah, tortured his wife, cut her hair and fled the scene after locking her in a room. Later, he called his in-laws and claimed that he had killed their daughter, Kiran Fatima.

Soon after receiving information, police and rescuers recovered the girl who was tied with ropes and shifted her to a local hospital in a serious condition.

Kiran – a resident of Yousafpura – was married to Attaullah four years ago and had been facing torture and abuse since then for not being able to give birth to a child.

According to her father, Muhammad Tanveer, the officials at Kheali Police Station were not taking any action despite the filing of an application.

And in the Pattoki area of Kasur, a woman was raped and tortured by her husband and his friends as the City Police Station have been unable so far to make any arrests after registration of a case.

The victim, Sumaira, was married to Muhammad Ashraf a – resident of Baloki – who forced her to act like a sex worker and started torturing over her refusal. She later shifted to Allahabad to live with her mother and filed for divorce.

However, Ashraf asked her to meet in Pattoki to solve the dispute but instead tortured and raped her along with other accomplices by locking her up in a house, as they even cut her hair and eyebrows.
