Karachi Customs foils bid to smuggle foreign currency from airport

The Collectorate of Customs team deputed to Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of foreign currency and arrested a passenger, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
A spokesman of Pakistan Customs said that a suspicious passenger was intercepted and, during detailed examination, the customs team recovered 1410 Chinese yuan, 1770 AED Dirhams, and 20,000 USD from his custody.
The passenger said that he possessed only $4,000 with him. The remaining currency was tactfully hidden in the secret part of his luggage.
Later, the customs team registered a case vide the Foreign Currency Act 1969 and started legal proceedings against the passenger.
