Rabia Abid Ali questions why upbringing is reserved for daughters
Actress Rabia Abid Ali has reacted to the tragic Sargodha incident with giving a video explanation on the sensitive topic. The veteran urged parents specially ''mothers" to focus not only on the upbringing of daughters but also on teaching sons respect, responsibility, and accountability.
In a video message, Rabia said the incident had left her saddened and struggling to find words strong enough to condemn what had happened.
She described the tragedy as one that had shaken people emotionally.
Rabia questioned why society often places the burden of tarbiyat (upbringing) solely on girls while sons are allowed greater freedom without the same level of moral guidance.
She further added that teaching boys to respect women is just as important as teaching girls’ modesty and discipline.
“Is upbringing only meant for daughters? Are sons outside the scope of this responsibility?” she asked
Rabia argued that simply enforcing dress codes or restrictions on daughters is not enough.
According to her, parents must actively teach sons how to interact with women respectfully and understand the value and status that women hold in society and religion.
Warning against ignoring this responsibility, she said that leaving sons “unchecked like untamed horses” would only contribute to the rise of such incidents in society.
She concluded that meaningful change can only come when boys are raised with empathy, respect, and accountability from an early age.
