Following International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) conditionalities, the government has decided to withdraw subsidy given to power consumers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
The recommendation has been readied to gradually end the subsidy given to the electricity consumers using 201 to 300 units.
The Federal Finance Ministry has directed the Power Division to start the implementation of the targeted subsidies plan.
According to sources, the 201-300 consumers are being given subsidy of Rs60 billion annually, which is being wrongly used.
The sources said Islamabad households availing this subsidy are not poor. Under the targeted subsidies plan, data is being collected about the users storing the electricity.
The sources said ID cards and phone numbers of consumers paying bills are being put on record under which the subsidy will be targeted.
