Covid crisis: Saudi Arabia starts free visa, iqama extension
Saudi Arabia has started extending visas to the people stranded in the Kingdom due to the coronavirus pandemic, 24NewsHD reported Monday.
On the orders of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi authorities started the extension of Iqama (work permit) and visit visas for free of charge till June 2.
No free will be charged for the extension which is applicable to all expats stuck in the Kingdom because of covid bars.
The decision applies to the labourers and domestic workers whose resident permits (Iqama) had expired abroad and who could not return to the Kingdom due to Covid-19 travel restriction.
Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passport (Jawazat) says that the Saudi government was trying to take such steps which could guarantee the health of the Saudi people and foreigners and diminish the monetary losses.
The directorate said that the extension in visas and work permits would be conducted through an automated system with the help of the National Information Center and the people do not need to contact any office in this regard. It further says that the expats, who cannot travel to the Kingdom due to a ban on entry, could be benefited from the decision of extension.
