The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has deferred its decision on power tariff hike for Karachi consumers and referred it to the federal government.

Nepra was moved for increasing the power tariff by Rs4.45 per unit. It referred the matter to the federal government, maintaining the it will be processed as per government policy guidelines.

Reportedly, the authority approved Rs1.55 per unit increase in electricity price for consumers of Karachi last week. The hike was made in the wake of the previous fiscal year’s second quarterly adjustment.

In May, the Nepra okayed a Rs3.70 per unit hike in the power tariff for K-Electric consumers on monthly fuel adjustment charges. The hike in the power tariff for K-Electric consumers was approved on account of fuel charge adjustment (FCA) for March.
