Action hinted against Punjab MPAs not showing up on Senate election day

Parliamentary leaders of parties allied to the PML-N in Punjab have hinted at taking action against their MPAs who will not show up on the day of the election for the Senate seat in the Punjab Assembly (PA), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Leaders of the parliamentary parties of PPP, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) and PML-Q have directed all their MPAs to ensure their presence on May 29. 

PML-N’s Hafiz Abdul Karim and PTI’s Mehr Abdus Sattar will compete for the Senate seat.

PPP has 14 seats in the provincial assembly, IPP has six, while the PML-Q has 10 seats. 

The PA, which was supposed to be a 371-member House, has now shrunk to a 341-member House after the opposition party, the PTI, was denied its reserved seats despite the Supreme Court (SC) orders. 

For a candidate to win the Senate seat, he will have to secure 171 votes.

The PML-N candidate enjoys the support of 236 MPAs while the PTI candidate enjoys the support of 103 MPAs.
