Iran insists Strait of Hormuz will remain under its control

Iran has reaffirmed that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will remain under the control of Iranian authorities even if a future agreement is reached with the United States, as negotiations between the two countries continue, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to official statements, the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters spokesperson said that any agreement would not alter Iran’s authority over the vital waterway.
The spokesperson stressed that responsibilities related to transit management, shipping schedules and the issuance of maritime licences would continue to be handled by Iranian officials.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the dialogue process between Tehran and Washington remained complex and would require considerable time to reach a conclusion.
He noted that discussions were continuing on a range of proposals and issues, with both sides exchanging views in an effort to narrow differences.
However, he acknowledged that disagreements remained on several key matters and that proposals from both parties were still under review.
Baghaei said the ongoing negotiations involved multiple dimensions and required careful examination of various political and security concerns before any final understanding could be reached.
The Iranian spokesperson also highlighted the role of Pakistan in facilitating communication between the two sides.
He said the efforts of Pakistan’s leadership had played an important part in enabling the exchange of proposals and helping maintain diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States.
