PM hails progress in Iran-US deal, eyes final talks in Pakistan
Praises Trump's diplomatic push for Middle East stability: commends Field Marshal Asim Munir's effort throughout diplomatic process: Trump says an agreement with Iran has largely been negotiated, with final details under discussion
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed hope that Pakistan will soon host the next round of peace talks between the United States and Iran, reaffirming Islamabad's commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, in a statement posted on X on Sunday, the prime minister said Pakistan would continue its peace initiatives with "utmost sincerity" and voiced optimism that the next phase of negotiations could take place in the country.
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump stated that an agreement with Iran had been largely negotiated and that discussions were now focused on finalising the remaining details.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised what he described as President Trump's extraordinary efforts to advance peace and stability in the region.
He was referring to a high-level telephone conversation involving several regional leaders aimed at discussing the evolving situation in the Middle East and prospects for diplomacy.
According to the prime minister, the call included leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Pakistan.
The prime minister said Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan during the conversation and commended his efforts throughout the diplomatic process.
He noted that the discussions provided an opportunity for participating leaders to exchange views on the current regional situation and explore ways to strengthen ongoing peace initiatives aimed at achieving lasting stability.
Reiterating Pakistan's support for dialogue and diplomacy, Prime Minister Shehbaz said the country would remain actively engaged in efforts to promote peace and expressed confidence that another round of negotiations could be convened in the near future.
