Woman killed as Katcha dacoits attack passenger bus on Indus Highway in Kashmore

A woman was killed and another passenger seriously injured after more than a dozen armed bandits opened fire on a passenger bus during an attempted robbery on the Indus Highway near Kashmore, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Saunday.

According to the police spokesperson, the attack took place late at night within the jurisdiction of Bakhshapur Police Station.

The bus was travelling from Quetta to Sadiqabad when it came under attack by heavily armed suspects positioned along the highway.

The spokesperson said the gunmen fired indiscriminately at the vehicle, striking passengers inside.

A woman identified as Wazeeran Bibi died from her injuries, while another passenger sustained serious wounds.

Following the attack, the assailants continued firing before fleeing towards the riverine area known as the katcha belt.

Police said the suspects managed to escape before law enforcement personnel arrived at the scene.

After receiving information about the incident, police teams rushed to the area and transferred the deceased woman’s body and the injured passenger to a hospital in Kashmore for medical and legal formalities.

A police spokesperson said a heavy contingent of officers cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down those responsible.

Police further stated that the operation is being led by Senior Superintendent of Police Muhammad Murad Ghanghro and will continue until all suspects involved in the attack are arrested.
