Mahira Khan raises voice for Afghan refugees
Taking to Instagram, the gorgeous actress shared multiple pictures of her goodwill drive to what seems to be a shanty area. She expressed the importance of displaced Afghans having their basic rights.
“The dreams of displaced Afghans are no different than anyone else’s dreams. To have a home,To send their children to school, To provide for their families. They need peace to fulfill their dreams.”
She further added, “I truly believe education is the key to success for every society. The Global Goals set a target of quality education for ALL. Refugees included. At the #Afghanistan2020, discussions on the quality of education will help secure the future of refugee children,” the caption read.
Last year, the actor was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the UNHCR. She joined the UN Refugee Agency and desired to use her new position to speak up for the cause.
Mahira shared the happy news on Twitter saying, "Grateful and honoured to be a [UNHCR] Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan... Proud to be born to a motherland that has opened its arms to refugees for over 40 years."
Prior to this appointment, she visited with Afghan refugees in Peshawar last year as part of a high-profile UN delegation. She has also spoken up for the needs of more than 1.4 million registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan in media interviews.
Khan in the video shared by UNHCR says, "Pakistan has set an example for the world where a country has hosted refugees for the last 40 years... this is one cause, because I feel so strongly about it, this is something that I want to talk about, especially as Pakistan's UNHCR National Goodwill Ambassador."
