Naeem Bukhari promises to restore PTV glory in 90 days
Naeem Bukhari – the newly-appointed chairman of the state-run television – on Tuesday joined the elite club of those promising a comprehensive transformation within three months, saying he would completely restore the PTV in 90 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Promising to return back lost glory to the PTV, Bukhari said he would resolve the issues with the employees’ union amicably.
He described the in-practice “contract-ism” as irrational and without any reasoning and noted that the PTV would have to be run through permanent staffers.
Dramas are among my priorities, said Bukhari and added that comedy programmes were the identity of PTV.
Earlier, the federal government approved the appointment of Bokhari – a noted lawyer and anchorperson – as the PTV chairman for three years and issued a notification in this regard.
In its summary, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had requested the federal cabinet to give relaxation to him in terms of age limit because he is over 65 years old. He will also be an Independent Director of the Pakistan Television Corporation Board.
Bukhari has a close relationship with Prime Minister Imran Khan as he had led the PTI chief’s legal team in the Panama Papers case.
