3 troops martyred, 3 Afghan terrorists dead as attack on FC HQs in Peshawar thwarted

Three suicide terrorists were killed on the spot after they tried to storm the headquarters of Frontier Constabulary (FC) in Peshawar on Monday morning but the alert security forces interrupted their move by not letting them enter the building. However, three FC jawans were also martyred as a suicide bomber exploded himself on the gate of the FC building, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A loud blast and firing were heard at the main gate of the headquarters after which an intense gunfight broke all in which all the terrorists, belonging to Fitna al-khwarij, were shot dead.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed Ahmad, said: “The FC headquarters was attacked. We responded by cordoned off the entire area.”

The CCPO Peshawar said that militants attacked the main gate of the FC headquarters at 8:10 am. “Two blasts were heard initially,” he informed.
Two explosions were reported — one suicide blast at the main FC main gate and another suicide detonation at the nearby motorcycle stand.

The blasts were so severe that it shattered the windowpanes of the nearby buildings. The attackers struck at 8:10 am on the premises located on Saddar Road, one of the city's busiest routes, just before rush hour.
All routes leading to Saddar area were closed for traffic. Similarly, Sunehri Masjid Road was also declared off-limits for traffic.

Meanwhile, security officials said they have secured the outer perimeters of the building, blocking all access routes leading to Saddar and adjacent areas. Reinforcements have been deployed, and the compound remained in lockdown as troops attempted to clear the interior of the building.
"Three FC personnel deployed at the gate were martyred and four others were wounded," said the CCPO Peshawar, adding one assailant detonated explosives and two other attackers were shot dead by the security forces.
An AFP reporter saw body parts of the suspected bomber lying outside the main gate, which was riddled with shrapnel holes.
"The attack has concluded, and a clearance operation was under way to determine whether any unexploded ordnance is present," Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, told media men.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far, though all the attackers were identified as Afghan nationals.
Security sources told the 24News TV channel that two passers-by also received minor injuries, and were quickly evacuated to a hospital.
Soon after the attack was foiled, markets and shopping centres in the Saddar locality were opened.
The KP IGP said that the attack was foiled as militants were not allowed to enter the building.
Further elaborating, he said that the first blast took place at the headquarters’ main gate while the other at the motorcycle stand.
Spokesman for the Lady Reading Hospital said that two injured FC personnel and three civilians were brought to the hospital where their condition was stable and they were being properly looked after.
Later, the investigators have identified all the terrorists who were all Afghan nationals.

Funeral of FC personnel held
Funeral prayers of Frontier Constabulary personnel who embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attack on FC Headquarters were held in Peshawar.
Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi also attended the funeral prayers of martyred FC personnel.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister paid glowing tributes to the sacrifices rendered by the brave jawans of the Frontier Constabulary.
He said that the sacrifices rendered by the martyred personnel will be remembered. He prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the souls of martyred personnel in eternal peace and grant courage to their families to bear this loss with courage.
The Chief Minister said that the KP government stands with the families of the martyred FC personnel.
The Chief Minister said that the sacrifices of the martyrs further strengthen our resolve against terrorism.
President, PM vow to wipe out terrorism
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack carried out by Fitna al-Khwarij targeting Federal Constabulary Headquarters in Peshawar.
The president and prime minister, in their separately issued statements, appreciated the timely response by the police and security forces which averted a major loss.
Calling the attack as a cowardly act of foreign backed anti-state elements, they reiterated the government’s resolve to completely wipe out the terrorism from the country. “The attack is a cowardly act by foreign-backed terrorists who are enemies of our beloved country. The complete elimination of foreign-sponsored Khawarij terrorism from Pakistan is our top priority,” President Zardari said and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families of the martyrs and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that those responsible for the incident should be identified at the earliest and brought to justice. He directed to extend immediate medical assistance to the injured and prayed for their swift recovery. “We will thwart the evil designs of the terrorists who attack Pakistan’s security. The Government of Pakistan is fully determined to completely eradicate terrorism from the country,” he reiterated.
