Asim Azhar dedicates deeply personal album Asim Ali to his mother
Asim Azhar had announced a deeply personal new album, Asim Ali, which was released last night on November 23rd. This is Azhar’s first fully independent album after years of chart-topping singles and major-label work.
In a heartfelt Instagram announcement (on his birthday), the singer revealed that Asim Ali is named in homage to his own original name and, most importantly, to his mother’s love. Yesterday, Azhar posted the album announcement on Instagram, writing: “A name born from my mother’s heart will be yours tonight.”
In his caption, he explained that these songs were written in his “most vulnerable & honest state”, and that music must be honest.
He noted he never expected fans to hear some of these tracks, as he used to think he had to stick to a certain style to stay relevant. But Asim Ali represents his true voice. Azhar repeatedly emphasises that his mother is his first audience.
He confessed: “I always play any new song for my mom first, from the very first track to today.”
He continued: “When I come back from the studio, if she is awake, I sing the song to her first. This album was also first played to her.”
In short, every new melody, including the Asim Ali title track, is dedicated to Pakistani actress Gull e Rana as his ultimate inspiration.
In one video clip, she even remarks to her son playfully: “Cricket ka junoon hai, Asim Ali ko,” hinting that, along with music, cricket is another of her sons’ passions.
Speaking emotionally about his album, Asim says: “I don’t know why but this feels like my first album, and I’m not saying this merely to sell it, but because I can say with pride and peace in my heart that it is the first album that truly belongs to me only.”
The singer and songwriter’s ending note of the video is: “You guys knew Asim Azhar, you didn’t know Asim Ali. And now I think it’s the right time le you guys get to know Asim Ali.”
Azhar has framed this album as a rebirth. He said he feels he is now in his “most authentic state”, especially creatively, and he wants listeners to experience the real him. In his announcement, he concluded warmly: “So thank you. I am Asim Azhar, and this is my album Asim Ali.”
His fans responded with excitement. Pre-release buzz reported that Asim Ali had already broken records for pre-saves of a Pakistani album.
In essence, what Azhar calls Asim Ali is not just a set of songs but a tribute to his roots and his mother’s unwavering support.
As Dawn notes, this first independent album “seems to represent both creative and personal liberation,” and promises to be a “love letter to his beginnings”.
Asim Azhar rose to fame in the 2010s as a teen pop sensation. He collaborated with Noori on Coke Studio and scored viral hits such as Jo Tu Na Mila (2018) and Habibi, building a large fanbase.
Over the years he also released hit singles like Tum Tum and Awaara, and even performed at major events.
Now, with Asim Ali, he has not only launched his first independent project but also rebranded himself – literally introducing a new Asim.
He wiped his Instagram clean and teased the album with a nostalgic video featuring childhood memories and loving words from his mother.
