Pakistan, Bangladesh move toward stronger maritime partnership

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry held a meeting with Bangladesh’s Shipping Advisor in London, during which both countries agreed to expand maritime cooperation and strengthen economic ties in the region, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Monday.

The minister proposed establishing a Pakistan–Bangladesh Shipping Framework aimed at enhancing joint shipping services, technical training exchanges and maritime safety mechanisms.

He said both nations have the capacity to play a meaningful role in shaping global maritime policy.

Chaudhry shared that consultations were held on a comprehensive long-term plan for bilateral maritime cooperation, including collaboration at key international forums.

Pakistan has also sought Bangladesh’s support in the upcoming International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category C elections.

The minister emphasized the importance of boosting cooperation between Islamabad and Dhaka at the IMO and other regional platforms.

He said Pakistan is ready to offer Karachi Port facilities for Bangladeshi cargo to strengthen commercial connectivity within South and Southeast Asia.

A Pakistan–Bangladesh Maritime Dialogue has been proposed, with discussions to cover ports, shipping operations and blue economy opportunities.

“A sustainable maritime partnership can bring stability and prosperity to the region,” Chaudhry said.
