Punjab Police chief tells officers to boost security in Lahore

Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Dr. Usman Anwar on Monday directed the Lahore capital city police officer (CCPO) and other officers to strengthen law and order across the provincial capital.

He directed the police officers to evict the Afghan refugees where required and closely monitor their homes and commercial centres. He emphasized that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leaders and workers wanted in different cases should be arrested without delay.

Dr. Usman ordered removal of TLP's flexes and banners with the help of the district administration. He stressed the need for strict monitoring of anti-state, hateful and malicious content on social media.

In view of security concerns, the IG instructed authorities to tighten the protection of police installations. He added that all weapons provided to security personnel must be inspected to ensure proper use and accountability.

He directed officers to immediately register cases involving violations of the Loudspeaker Act, the display of weapons, and the double-cabin culture. He instructed police to prevent wheelies, aerial firing and kite flying across the city.

The Punjab Police chief emphasized effective action to arrest criminals declared in A and B categories. He ordered thorough checking of security arrangements at banks, commercial centres and jewellery shops.

Dr Usman said that details of private security guards should be entered into the official register. He emphasized the need to increase security for Sikh pilgrims, Chinese nationals and other foreign residents.

He said that police personnel must remain alert at the residences and facilities used by foreign nationals. He also stressed ensuring the prevention of harassment, violence and abuse against women.

The IG directed immediate action on any reported incidents of violence or abuse involving children. He ordered an intensified crackdown on brothels and gambling dens.

Dr Usman reiterated that officers and officials involved in abuse of authority or corruption would be held accountable. He made it clear that the relevant SPs and DSPs would be responsible in cases of illegal detention.
