Right-arm fast-medium bowler Omar Gul has decided to retire from cricket and the upcoming National T20 Cup will be his last event as a professional player, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.

Omar Gul has played 130 ODIs, 60 T20s and 47 Tests in his international career. He has taken 427 wickets in his international career. The International Cricket Council named Omar Gul as the world's best bowler in T20 all-time rankings.

In 2009 he established himself as the world's best T20 bowler, the TV channel reported.

Umar Gul has played for Pakistan, Gloucestershire, Habib Bank Limited, Kolkata Knight Riders, Multan Sultans, North West Frontier Province, North West Frontier Province Panthers, Pakistan A, Pakistan International Airlines, Peshawar, Peshawar Panthers, Quetta Gladiators, Sussex, Uva Next and Western Australia.

His ability to bowl a pinpoint yorker made him a key part of the Pakistan side which won the 2009 World T20 and a regular in one-day cricket until around 2012. Gul bowled out Indian top order in the Lahore Test against India in 2003-04.

Umar Gul is the second-highest wicket-taker (74) in Twenty20 International cricket, only behind Saeed Ajmal. He won the Twenty20 International Performance of the Year 2013.
