NAB chairman appointment: Govt ponders ways to keep opp out of process

The government is considering a procedure to bring an ordinance to keep the leader of the opposition from the process of appointment of Chairman NAB, reported 24NewsHD TV on Friday.
Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem will brief Prime Minister Imran Khan on the matter next week.
According to sources, the discussions will be held as to whether seek Shahbaz Sharif consultation on the appointment of the new chairman NAB or not.
It also expected to suggest removing the ‘Leader of the Opposition’ consultation clause on the appointment of NAB chairman.
Earlier Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem dismissed reports regarding bringing an ordinance to extend the tenure of current chairman nab Javed Iqbal.
“No such draft for an ordinance has been prepared to extend the tenure of Chairman NAB.”
He said the issue of granting extension to the NAB chairman had been discussed four to five times in the presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He said the issue regarding the appointment of the NAB Chairman will become clear next week.
