Resignation drama: 25 PTI MNAs, senators violate Imran Khan's directives
PTI parliamentarians still retain standing committees' perks despite announcing resignations: Officials clarify no resignation becomes effective until it is formally submitted
Around 25 senators and members of the National Assembly (MNAs) of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have so far ignored the directives of the party’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, to submit their resignations.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, despite repeated announcements of quitting both the National Assembly and Senate, several PTI lawmakers have neither formally submitted resignations nor returned facilities.
Sources revealed that senators Saifullah Abro, Saif Saleem, and Sahibzada Mehboob Sultan, among others, remain active in standing committees despite public declarations of their resignation after Imran Khan's call.
Officials familiar with parliamentary procedures said that members who resign from standing committees should also return the privileges they receive, as they forfeit their entitlement once leaving those committees.
If PTI members do not formalise their resignations, the standing committees are likely to be reallocated to other parliamentary parties, they said.
Earlier, on August 27, 2025, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported that PTI had announced mass resignations from standing committees.
Faisal Amin, brother of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, was the first to resign from the committees on economic affairs, food security, and the parliamentary task force.
The next day, on August 28, PTI Chief Whip Malik Amir Dogar and Hangu MNA Yousuf Khan also resigned from all National Assembly standing committees.
Later that evening, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and 17 party members submitted their resignations to the NA Secretariat.
Barrister Gohar stepped down from four committees, including Law and Justice, IT, Human Rights, and Business Advisory, where he also served as convener of the IT sub-committee.
However, reports indicate that resignations from several lawmakers, including Junaid Akbar, Amir Dogar, and Sanaullah Khan Masti, have not yet been received by the Secretariat.
Officials clarified that no resignation becomes effective until it is formally submitted and accepted by the National Assembly Secretariat.
