LHC suspends ECP s Punjab LB polls scheduled from June 9

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) schedule for local bodies polls in Punjab in an interim order, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The divisional bench of LHC gave short order on the petitions of Akbar Ali Dogar and other lawyers against Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021.

The court issued 27-A notice to Advocate General Punjab and sought replies from him on May 24.

The petitioners pleaded that the Punjab Governor issued Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021 and gave powers to the Punjab Chief Minister.

The petition sought suspension of the Section 3 and 71 of the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2021 and also suspension of Local Bodies polls scheduled from June 9th in Punjab.
