Nida Dar takes temporary break from cricket to focus on mental health
Pakistan women’s cricket former captain Nida Dar has announced a temporary break from the sport, citing mental health concerns.
The decision was made public through her social media accounts, where she expressed the emotional toll recent personal and professional challenges have had on her well-being.
"After careful consideration, I have decided to take a temporary break from cricket to prioritize my mental health and well-being," Nida wrote in her heartfelt message.
"Recent personal and professional challenges have taken a toll on my mental health, and I need to take some time to focus on myself."
Nida also opted out of the upcoming National Women’s T20 Cup, choosing instead to step away from all cricketing activities for the time being.
She requested privacy during this period, adding that she intends to return to the sport when she feels mentally ready.
"I appreciate your understanding and respect for my privacy during this time. I am grateful for the support of my loved ones and look forward to returning to the cricket field when I am ready,” she added.
Nida Dar is the most capped T20 International (T20I) player for the country and the first Pakistani—male or female—to claim 100 wickets in T20 Internationals.
She is also one of only four women to have played 100 ODIs for Pakistan.
She ranks second in ODI wickets for the country, behind only former captain Sana Mir.
