23 injured in head-on bus collision near Pentagon

Twenty three people, including personnel from the US Department of Defense, were injured when two commuter buses collided head-on near the Pentagon on Friday.

According to a statement from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, the crash involved an OmniRide bus and a Fairfax Connector transit bus shortly before 7:30 am.

Emergency responders transported 18 of the injured to nearby hospitals for further evaluation, while five were treated at the scene.

Officials said 10 of those injured were affiliated with the Defense Department.

The accident led to the closure of Metro Access Road as authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the collision, which remains unclear.

The Arlington Fire Department confirmed its response to the incident but referred further inquiries to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.

The crash also disrupted mass transit services in the area for several hours, while footage from the scene showed the two buses after the impact.
