The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) held a ceremony at the party’s secretariat at Model Town in Lahore on Saturday to celebrate the Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, their party supremo Nawaz Sharif’s birthdays and Christians’ religious festival Christmas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A large number of PML-N leaders and activists including opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal, senior leader Kh Saad Rafiq, Malik Afzal Khokhar, Kh Ahmad Hasaan, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami and others participated in the event.
Addressing the function, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif’s son Hamza Shehbaz Sharif said that 25th December was an important day as it was the birthday of our Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and it’s a Christmas day.
Though for Christians it’s a day of making merriments but it’s very unfortunate that this year, the Christians can’t afford to buy new clothes and gifts for their children due to rising inflation and poverty in the country, Hamza lamented.
He lashed out at government’s economic management saying prices of everything were going up, jobs were not available and people could not have money to pay their utility bills. He deplored that our country which was an atomic power was getting deep into the economic morass.
He said the PTI had touted to make a ‘New Pakistan’ but it had even destroyed the ‘Old Pakistan’.
He lauded the efforts of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, PPP’s Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif for making Pakistan an atomic power. He said Nawaz did not buckle under the world pressure and refused to accept money in exchange for shelving the nuclear programme. He said Nawaz told the world if India would conduct five atomic explosions, Pakistan would do six.
Addressing the cheering crowd, Hamza also extolled the party’s workers’ enthusiasm.
“I was and I am still a party worker,” he told the applauding crowd. He said he always believed that workers were the backbone of any party.
On this occasion, while talking to audience, Ahsan Iqbal said that it was the responsibility of the PML-N to take out Pakistan from the crises in which the country had been entangled. He said that the Pakistan Movement was not launched for personal interests, rather it was lunched for the creation of Pakistan.
Mr Iqbal said Pakistan would not progress with pictures, it would progress with discipline.
While talking to the participants, Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that Nawaz Sharif was punished for conducting atomic explosion. He said allegations were levelled against every civilian premier in Pakistan.
He stated that three times Nawaz was elected as prime minister but not even once he was allowed to complete his term. He deplored that justice had never been done in their case.
“You have laid down the landmines. A battalion of 10,000 comes and shakes the government,” he said adding that it was not possible that they won’t condemning the martial law. “We will oppose martial law,” he reiterated.
