Punjab Green crowned champions of Quaid-e-Azam Day Weightlifting

Punjab Green emerged as the overall champions of the Quaid-e-Azam Day Men’s and Women’s Weightlifting Tournament 2025, held at the Elite Training Centre in Lahore. The event was organised by the Punjab Weightlifting Association in collaboration with the Punjab Sports Board, and featured spirited competition among 12 female and 31 male athletes.

The tournament witnessed a head-to-head battle between Punjab Green and Punjab White. In the women’s team category, Punjab Green secured victory with a combined lift of 284kg, while Punjab White finished runners-up with 245kg. In the men’s clean and jerk category, Punjab Green once again dominated, registering a total of 1202kg against Punjab White’s 1092kg, thereby sealing their overall championship triumph.

The event was inaugurated by Madam Nuzhat Jabeen, Chairperson of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, alongside former international weightlifter Maryam Aqeel Shah. The closing ceremony was graced by Omar Sohail Zia Butt, former MNA and senior leader, who distributed medals, certificates, and awards to the winners alongwith Rashid Nadeem Butt Associate Secretary PWLA and Media Coordinator Sohail Javed Butt.A particularly memorable highlight came from the Braveheart Club, where Madiha Zubair lifted 60kg to win gold, while her mother Zara Zubair secured silver with 45kg, trailing her daughter by 15kg.

In the women’s division, gold medals were clinched by Taqdees Qayyum, Khadija Yousaf, Arfa Mushtaq, Amina Babar, Eman Fatima, and Madiha Zubair, while silver medals went to Izza Jatt, Alia Ghazanfar, Zara Zubair, Malaika Waseem, Mahnoor Shakeel, and Shahzal Tanveer. In the men’s division, a wide pool of athletes including Sameer Nadeem, Aziz Cheema, Muhammad Ali, Uzair, Zuhair Akram, Rana Shubhan, Hafiz Imran Aziz, Mukarram Butt, Hiba Ali, Fardeen Ali, Abdullah Ayaz, Muneeb Yousaf, Qasim Mushtaq, Laik Mushtaq, Talha Tariq, Abdul Hadi Zeeshan Butt, Hassan, Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Saqlain, Saleem, Abdul Ghaffar, Ali Butt, Ali Haider, Qasid Butt, and Fardeen Usman secured medals across various weight categories.

The matches were supervised by a team of technical officials including Abdullah Sohail Butt, Usman Aqeel Butt, Waseem Akram, Muhammad Zahoor, Abu Bakar Ghani, Maryam Aqeel Butt, and Naila Maqsood Butt, ensuring fair play and professional standards throughout the competition.
