The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail application of a deputy inspector general (DIG) who had posted ‘inappropriate pictures’ of his former wife on social media.

The court said that posting inappropriate pictures of women on social media was a crime against the society. The defence lawyer said his client had been languishing in the jail for two years for a minor crime. On this, Justice Mushir Alam said, “all of us have daughters and this crime should not be called a petty crime”.

The counsel for the accused said that DIG Junaid Arshad had a dispute with his wife and she implicated him in the case. The judge said that disputes do take place in every family, but people should not cross the limits.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that Junaid Arshad’s phone and laptop was traced during the investigation. He said that record shows the case was being delayed by the counsel for the accused. Justice Mushir Alam said a lawyer should also take care of his client. He said the delay must not be blamed on the court. He said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a cases against Junaid Arshad under the Cyber Crime Act in Lahore.
