Supreme Court acquits two accused in kidnapping and murder case after 15 years

The Supreme Court Tuesday acquitted two men accused of kidnapping and murdering a four-year-old child for ransom after 15 years, citing a lack of evidence, reported 24NewsHd TV channel.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Kakar, heard the case and ruled in favor of the accused, Imtiaz and Naeem.

Their lawyer, Arshad Hussain Yousafzai, argued that no concrete evidence was presented against them. He stated that neither the alleged ransom-demanding mobile phone was recovered, nor was there any witness testimony linking them to the crime.

The case was originally registered in 2008, and in 2010, a terrorism court sentenced the accused to death.

However, the High Court later commuted their sentences to life imprisonment. After a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court overturned the convictions, leading to their acquittal.
