Colombia probes bullet hole in American Airlines plane

Colombian authorities are investigating after an apparent bullet hole was found in the wing of an American Airlines flight that landed in Medellin from Miami, US media reported Tuesday.

American Airlines said its teams "identified a puncture" to the plane's exterior during a routine inspection following a flight from Miami to the South American country, according to multiple media outlets.

CBS News said the apparent bullet hole was "located in the right wing of a 737 MAX 8 aircraft" and found on Monday, noting Colombian officials were investigating.

"The aircraft was immediately removed from service for further inspection and repair. We will work closely with all relevant authorities to investigate this incident," the airline told CBS.

The airline said there were no reported injuries, and the plane experienced no issues while in flight.

It was not clear when the damage to the wing occurred or how many people were on the flight.

According to data from the website Flightradar24, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 flew from Miami to Medellin on Sunday and from Medellin to Miami on Monday morning.

Colombia's aviation regulatory agency said Tuesday it had not received any information from US authorities about the incident but would "promptly inform the public" should it receive an update.
