Coronavirus takes a hit in Pakistan as only 24 people died

There has been a sharp decline in the number of coronavirus deaths in Pakistan as the Covid-19 claimed just 24 lives in the country during the last 24 hours (Friday), raising the death toll to 5787, shows the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Saturday morning.

The number of deaths plunged more than half on Friday as compared to a day earlier when 54 people died of the virus in Pakistan.

Most of Friday’s deaths were recorded in Sindh where the number of people dying of the coronavirus reached 2,110 after the addition of 14 more fatalities.

On the other hand, the number of deaths in Punjab currently stands at 2,113 with the addition of eight more deaths followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,170 in one death, Islamabad 162, Balochistan 136, Azad Kashmir 49 and Gilgit-Baltistan 47 with the addition of one death.

As far as the coronavirus cases are concerned, Pakistan registered 1,487 more cases on Friday. Sindh tops the list with 116,800 people being diagnosed with the infection. The updated data for the other provinces and regions is: Punjab 91,691, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,071, Islamabad 14,821, Balochistan 11,550, Azad Kashmir 2,012 and Gilgit-Baltistan 1,942.

Meanwhile, the number of active coronavirus cases has now dropped below 30,000. Out of these 29,504 active cases, 1,316 patients are in a critical condition and being treated in the intensive care units of different hospitals across the country.

This reduction in the active cases came as 236,596 people have so far fully recovered from the infection caused by the coronavirus.

In the meantime, the number of tests administered since the coronavirus pandemic has now increased to 1,844,926 after 23,630 people were tested for the infection during the past 24 hours.

There was no patient on a ventilator in Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. As many as 242 ventilators were occupied across Pakistan out of 1,859 allocated for the COVID-19 patients.
