Judge, PTI lawyers exchange hot words during Toshakhana case hearing

A heated argument took place Monday between a judge of a district and sessions court and the lawyers for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the hearing of the Toshakhana case in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The argument between Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar and the PTI lawyers took place upon the arrival of the PTI chairman at the court. The PTI lawyers were objecting to presence of PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar in the courtroom.

The PTI lawyers shouted slogans while arguing with the judge. The court hinted at legal action against them.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man reportedly threw a water bottle at the PTI chairman while he was making his way to the court of Judge Humayun Dilawar.

The judge marked the attendance of the PTI chairman and allowed him to leave the court.

During the hearing of the case, PTI’s lawyer Khawaja Harris cross-examined Waqas Malik, a witness of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

“How can the court say that the signature and initials of the witness are genuine?” Khawaja Harris questioned.

“You cannot prevent the court from giving judgment or remarks,” Judge Humayun Dilawar said to the lawyer and asked him to start cross-examination.

“Was Form B, which you mentioned in the statement, prepared by yourself?” Khawaja Harris questioned Waqas Malik.

“I did not prepare Form B for the PTI chairman for years 2018, 2020 and 2021,” Waqas Malik replied.

“There aren’t my signatures from pages 1 to 44 of the attached documents. Out of these 44 pages, the first four are certified while the rest are uncertified,” he added.

“Were any of the Toshakhana gifts examined in your presence?” Khawaja Harris questioned Waqas Malik.

“The gifts of Toshakhana were not examined in my presence,” Waqas Malik replied.

“Are you an expert on Toshakhana gifts?” Khawaja Harris questioned further.

“I am not an expert in examining Toshakhana gifts,” Waqas Malik stated.

“You stated that in 2018-19, the value of Toshakhana gifts was Rs107 million. Whose services did you hire to examine the gifts?” Khawaja Harris put another question to the witness.

“I have already said that I did not get help from anyone regarding Toshakhana,” the witness emphasised.
