Irrigation department dismisses reports of flood threat in Sutlej River

The Punjab Irrigation Department has rejected reports suggesting a flood threat in the Sutlej River, describing such claims as baseless and urging the public not to pay attention to unverified information.

According to the department's spokesperson, the Sutlej River is flowing normally in the Chhabbar area near Allahabad, with the current water flow recorded at approximately 2,000 cusecs.

The spokesperson said that a flow of up to 50,000 cusecs in the Sutlej River is also considered normal, adding that the impression of any imminent flood threat is incorrect.

The Irrigation Department said its field teams remain on alert and are continuously monitoring all safety embankments and flood protection structures along the river.

The spokesperson added that departmental teams are fully prepared to respond to any situation, if required.

The department urged the public to avoid believing or sharing unconfirmed news and rumours and advised citizens to rely only on official updates issued by the Irrigation Department for accurate information regarding the river's condition.
