Handcuffed robbery suspect escapes from moving police van in Rawalpindi 

In a troubling incident which took place during broad daylight in Rawalpindi on Wednesday, a handcuffed suspect managed to flee police custody, raising concerns over Rawalpindi Police’s prisoner transport protocols, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Official sources said the incident took place when ASI Tahir Sultan and Constable Irfan Adil of Banni Police Station were taking three detainees suspected of robbery and narcotics offences, Muhammad Ayaz, Abdullah, and Shiraz, to a court in a private police vehicle.

As the vehicle touched the vicinity of Punjab House, it encountered a massive traffic jam, ultimately halting its movement.

Suspect Muhammad Ayaz, taking advantage of the situation, managed to slip his hand out of the handcuffs, opened the car door, and fled the scene.

In a daring attempt to evade capture, Ayaz is reportedly said to have leapt into a nearby nullah (rain drain).

The police immediately sealed off the area and launched a search operation. Yet, despite these efforts, the suspect remained unaccounted for.

In the aftermath of the escape, a formal case was lodged at the Civil Lines Police Station against Constable Irfan Adil and ASI Tahir Sultan for their alleged negligence which facilitated the suspect’s escape.
