Paraguay star Miguel Almiron suspended for one match at FIFA World Cup 2026

Paraguay footballer Miguel Almiron has been suspended for one match during the FIFA World Cup 2026 after being found in breach of FIFA's disciplinary regulations, 24NewsHD TV reported on Thursday.

According to international media reports, Almiron was shown a red card during Paraguay’s World Cup match against Turkey on June 19.

FIFA later confirmed that the Paraguayan midfielder violated Article 14.1(b) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, resulting in an automatic one-match suspension.

The world football governing body stated that the ban will be enforced in Paraguay’s next World Cup 2026 fixture.

FIFA also clarified that the disciplinary decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Almiron received the punishment following an incident involving Turkey defender Merih Muldur during Paraguay’s 1-0 victory.

The controversy occurred in the closing moments of the first half when a heated exchange broke out between the two players.

During the argument, Almiron covered his mouth with his hand while speaking to his opponent.

Under FIFA’s updated regulations, players are prohibited from deliberately covering their mouths during on-field discussions, as the action may be interpreted as an attempt to conceal comments or communication.

Match officials deemed the gesture a violation of the rules and issued a red card, which ultimately led to FIFA's disciplinary action.
